Hoboken’s affinity for Halloween came back strong for the 2022 season with neighborhoods going all out in décor, thousands of Trick or Treaters, hundreds marching in the Ragamuffin parade and another 700 showing up a haunted houses on Hudson St. organized by three fraternities.
While Covid still impeded on celebrations in 2021 with a scaled back Ragamuffin parade, this year’s Halloween showed no signs of being held back by the virus. More than 1,000 reveled in the parade with another 300 showing up at the Little League for the return of the Costume Contest.
Uptown street closures allowed thousands of Trick or Treaters to roam safely on the streets and sidewalks from 14th St. to 11th Street along Garden and Bloomfield, where neighbors decked their gates and stoops with intricate, fun and spooky décor. Hoboken Police Department monitored crowd controls and traffic, which was shut down from 5 PM – 8 PM.
And at 837 Hudson St., Phi Sigma Kappa, Phi Sigma Sigma and Sigma Delta Tau resurrected the popular Skare House, a room-by-room tour of more than a dozen spaces that featured gore, guts, humor and haunts throughout the 1920s Mansion. More than 700 visitors walked through Skare House, helping the fraternities and sororities raise more than $3,000 for area charities.
